Tick activity dropped last week
As Tatyana Panina, an entomologist at the regional Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology, told us, this is due to cold weather. “As the weather gets colder, ticks wait out unfavorable conditions. We have this way of checking: we take a counting flag, or simply a piece of fabric, and watch how ticks crawl along it. Usually they are very active, but now they are lazy and unhurried. As soon as the weather changes, they become active again,” the entomologist explained.
