Russia is falling further behind the leaders in the competitiveness rankings
In the World Economic Forum (WEF) global competitiveness ranking, Russia rose from 53rd to 45th place among 144 countries (see table). But it was the decline in the competitiveness of other countries that helped, rather than the improvement of the situation in Russia: the score did not change. For example, the positions of Turkey, South Africa, India, Brazil and Mexico have worsened. Russia is still below China (28th place), Chile (35th), Kazakhstan (42nd) and Eastern European countries.
