Spring resettlement of the Yakuts
More than three hundred people, including 109 children, were evacuated yesterday from the banks of the Lena River in the Kobyaisky region of Yakutia due to the onset of floods. The cause of the river flood, according to the republican Ministry of Emergency Situations, was a 42-kilometer ice jam that formed on the Lena below the mouth of the Vilyuy. As a result, the villages of Kalvitsa, Sitte and Kuokuy were completely flooded with water.
