“In 1955, the USSR ceded to Japan under pressure from Khrushchev”
Half a century ago, on June 3, 1955, difficult negotiations began in London on restoring diplomatic relations between the USSR and Japan. Their result was the declaration of 1956, with the adoption of which the state of war between the two countries ended. That document promised that after the signing of the peace treaty, the USSR would transfer the island of Shikotan and the Habomai archipelago to Japan.
