Birthdays, like New Years, come only once a year. The judo sports festival, whose name is the “World Championship,” is held even less frequently—once every two years. Therefore, and perhaps also because the competition in judo is fantastic (more than 180 countries are members of the international federation, and in 2005 about a hundred countries entered their teams into the competition in Cairo), becoming a world champion in judo is a tenfold celebration.
