The end of the dynasty of earthly gods
Communists made Nepal a republic Yesterday, the world became one less monarchy after Nepal's constitutional assembly, at its first meeting in the capital Kathmandu, declared the country a federal democratic secular republic and adopted a declaration on the abolition of theocracy. Thus, 60-year-old Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, whose Hindu dynasty in the status of earthly gods had ruled the Himalayan kingdom since 1768, was officially dethroned.
