A scientific edition of two books by Sumarokov has appeared In 1774, the actual state councilor and cavalier Alexander Petrovich Sumarokov published several of his books, including “Solemn Odes” and “Love Elegies.” The poet prepared these collections with special care, abbreviating and editing previously published texts. Having recently lost his almost undeniable primacy in Russian Parnassus, the half-disgraced writer, irritated by failures, stubbornly defended his poetic principles.
