Former Prime Minister of Denmark, 56-year-old Anders Fogh Rasmussen, begins work as Secretary General of NATO, the largest military-political alliance uniting 28 countries. In this chair, he replaced 61-year-old Dutchman Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, whose five-year mandate expired on July 31. Rasmussen, who replaced him, is the 12th secretary general of the alliance and the first to occupy this post, having resigned from the post of prime minister specifically for this purpose.
