Deutsche Boerse projects for the takeover of European exchange institutions
In 2000, Deutsche Boerse attempted to take over the London Stock Exchange , but the deal failed due to strong opposition from LSE owners. At the end of 2004, a similar attempt was made again. At the same time, Euronext put out an offer to buy LSE. Analysts tended to believe that the decisive factor would be financial, not political. In January 2005, one of Deutsche Boerse's major shareholders opposed the planned takeover of LSE.
