The trial of Ivan Golunov

In Moscow, the police detained Ivan Golunov, a correspondent for Meduza's investigations department. The publication writes about this with reference to his lawyer Dmitry Dzhulai. The journalist stated that an unknown substance was planted on him. Golunov was detained on June 6 near the Tsvetnoy Bulvar metro station when he was on his way to meet a source, the BBC Russian Service reports, citing lawyer Dmitry Dzhulai. According to him, the detainee called the incident a provocation and said that the operatives had acted "very clumsily." After his arrest, Golunov was not allowed to contact his family, lawyer or colleagues for more than 12 hours, Dzhulai said. According to the interrogation report, police officers dragged the journalist along the floor and one of them hit him in the face. They refused to conduct hand swabs and nail clippings to check whether Golunov had touched or used drugs. The press service of the Moscow police, without naming the person, reported that during the operational search activities, the police detained a 36-year-old Muscovite who was found to have five packages with a powdery substance. Three more packages and a package, as well as scales, were found at his home. According to the expert's conclusion, this is about four grams of methylephedrone (the drug mephedrone). A criminal case has been opened against the detainee for preparing to sell drugs on a large scale. “We know that Vanya has received threats in recent months; we know in connection with what text is being prepared; we can guess from whom,” the editorial board of Meduza stated, without specifying details.
