On July 28, 2024, pianist, writer and anti-war activist Pavel Kushnir died in a pre-trial detention center in Birobidzhan. Pavel was arrested for a video on a YouTube channel with five subscribers, but he did not live to see the verdict. Nine days before his death, a court in Birobidzhan fined pianist Pavel Kushnir under a protocol of contempt for Putin. Mediazona drew attention to the resolution.
Kushnir was detained at the end of May under the charge of calls for terrorist activities due to an anti-war video on the same channel. In the pre-trial detention center, the musician began a dry hunger strike, and on July 28 he died.
In 2023, Kushnir became a soloist of the Birobidzhan Regional Philharmonic. Back in 2014, he wrote and published an anti-war book. Last May, he also went on a dry hunger strike to protest the war with Ukraine.
We publish Pavel’s appeal, which he published on April 27, 2023 on his YouTube channel “Foreign Agent Mulder,” and a fragment of his solo concert.
