This is the third episode of the series "On the Path to Freedom", where we talk about the phenomena and people who made Russia free for a short period of time. We are doing this project in collaboration with professional historians, whose names we cannot name because they remain in Russia, and Novaya Gazeta Evropa is recognized as an undesirable organization.
Today we will talk about the independence movement: the struggle of the republics for the right to live in their own national states, and not as part of the Soviet empire. Look for previous episodes about how perestroika began and how peaceful protest revealed public discontent with the system in a separate playlist "On the Path to Freedom" on our channel.
