Materials for Ilya Venyavkin's book “The Temple of War”
Meduza's publishing house has released a book by historian and co-founder of the Russian Independent Media Archive (RIMA), Ilya Venyavkin, titled “The Temple of War: The People and Ideas That Made the Russian Invasion of Ukraine Possible.”
Drawing on open sources, Venyavkin traces the biographies of nine very different public figures — from Central Bank head Elvira Nabiullina to blogger and “war correspondent” Andrei “Murza” Morozov. Through their life stories, the author shows how these individuals, through their actions and rhetoric, helped construct the image of an external enemy supposedly threatening Russia.
Many of the sources used for “Temple of War” are in our archive. Here are the most interesting ones.

10.05.2023The best guys

20 years ago, Russian officers publicly tried for a war crime. This is how it was and how it ended For more than 14 months of the war in Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation did not recognize a single war crime committed by the Russian military, and those who talk about these crimes are threatening criminal cases for “fakes” and “discrediting”. 20 years ago, when Vladimir Putin was already the president of Russia, everything was a little different.

Not quotes from the recollections of the CHC, not an interview with Nikolai Svanidze, a Moscow witness of this conversation, but a comment. The first question: where is he calling?

10.09.2003Report of Anatoly Chubais at the Congress of ATP
Yes, everyone sitting here has the right to say to this: I am a statesman and I am a Russian patriot! (Applause)
Hello! (Said menacingly Chubais) I was silent for a long time (laughter in the hall, applause). I was silent for a long time because I was busy. (Applause) was busy solving two problems that he considered and still consider absolutely strategic for the country. One of them V is a task at all costs to prevent the catastrophe of Russian energy, to push it away from the edge of the abyss, on which it really stood in the late 90s.

17.10.2012The ideology of Patriarch Kirill, methods of its promotion and its possible influence on the identity of the Russian Orthodox Church
It's about about the utopian project of a partial return to the pre-modern state of society with strong power of the Church
From 1999-2000 Russian Orthodox Church passes from episodic statements on socially significant issues to promotion some belief system that can be represented as an ideology. Of course, the Church is not a political organization, but this does not mean that there can be no ideological doctrine applicable to a wide range of socially important topics. As well as the obvious fragmentation and the inadequacy of such a doctrine does not mean that it simply does not exist or that it can be ignore.

18.06.2006Politics and political activity
Those who are subject to authority know that they are subject to authority. This is their voluntary act, even though it is the result of coercion. Authority is not authority unless it is accepted voluntarily. But for it to be accepted voluntarily, one must first be beaten half to death.
We publish a complete transcript of the lecture of the philosopher, a specialist in the elected and other political projects of Timofei Sergeytseva , read on June 8, 2006 in the club - the literary cafe Bilingua as part of the Public Lectures Polit.ru project. The genre of this lecture is not entirely common, it does not have an “academic” division into a report and discussion, which was demanded by the request of the organizers to the lecture.
