Ukraine’s authorities: death toll following shelling of Kherson rises to 10 people
Following today’s shelling of the Ukrainian city of Kherson by the Russian army, 66 cars burnt down, Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.
The city was shelled from multiple rocket launchers. The fire crews extinguished the fires caused by the shelling in 40 minutes.
Following the attack, the death toll has now risen to 10 people, the head of the Kherson regional administration Yaroslav Yanushevych says. Fifty five people were wounded, 18 of them are in critical condition.
Earlier, the local prosecutor’s office reported the death of eight people. “Civilian infrastructure objects have been damaged, among them are residential and administrative buildings, as well as vehicles,” it added.
In the morning of 24 December, Russian troops shelled the centre of the city of Kherson. In total, the Russian army has shelled the Kherson region 74 times over the past day, Yanushevych claims. “The enemy has been mercilessly attacking residential areas of Kherson for the entire day — 36 shellings have been documented. Russian shells have hit critical infrastructure facilities, a kindergarten, a school, a hospital, shops, a factory, private and multi-storey buildings,” the head of the administration previously reported.
On 11 November, Ukraine’s Armed Forces took back control over the city of Kherson. The next day, the regional military administration, police, and Security Service of Ukraine resumed work in the city. After withdrawing from Kheron, the Russian army has been regularly shelling the city.
