We won’t argue now about whether this is good or bad, but it is so. The White House's decision to freeze the Agency for International Development (USAID) has affected many.

They tell us that we are few. That there are only a few of us. That we don't exist at all. The authorities diligently convince everyone that we are an exception to the rule and that we should not be listened to. Cowardice is ruining Russia. People's fear of losing momentary benefits leaves our country without a future. This is well understood by authoritarian power, which stays afloat not at all due to its authority or even due to force, but due to the fear that it instills in society.
