I propose to give this year’s Nobel Peace Prize to Bashar al-Assad for his publicly expressed willingness to resign from his post if this will help resolve internal Syrian problems. True, he only promised, but did nothing - after all, Barack Obama received his award (2009) in advance. True, Assad was not so much concerned about peace as he was in charge of massacres - just like Yasser Arafat (1994) was the leader of the terrorist Palestine Liberation Organization. True, he is not a public figure, but a professional politician - after all, Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, Willy Brandt, Shimon Peres and Mikhail Gorbachev also occupied the highest government positions in their countries. And considering that Benito Mussolini (1935), Adolf Hitler (1939) and Joseph Stalin (1945) were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, then the Syrian dictator's chances are not so bad!
