In August 2009, in Adygea, on Mount Fisht, a cross 2.5 m high and weighing 250 kg, installed on the top of the mountain in honor of the 1000th anniversary of the baptism of Rus', was cut down and thrown into the abyss.
On August 18, 2009, a group of local climbers reported the disappearance of the cross from the summit to the Maykop-Adyghe diocese. A group of specialists was sent to Fisht, which included representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic and the diocese, who documented the act of vandalism.
