Murder of a student in St. Petersburg

On May 12, 2007, a 6th-year student of the biological faculty of St. Petersburg State University, a teacher at a Jewish gymnasium, Dmitry Nikulinsky, was killed in St. Petersburg. The body of the deceased was found by his father in the entrance of his own house in the Kalininsky district. On the body of the deceased, experts counted about 20 stab wounds. None of the items were stolen. According to the investigation, D. Nikulinsky left the apartment at the time of the attack in order to go to the university for classes.

The investigation is being conducted by the 6th department of the ROVD of the Kalininsky district. A criminal case was initiated under Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("murder").

According to human rights activist Ruslan Linkov, "Dmitry's murder was committed on the basis of interethnic relations, given that nothing was stolen from Nikulinsky, and his appearance clearly indicated his national identity . " According to the human rights activist, "the very handwriting of stabbing indicates that this is most likely the work of skinheads" .

The crime was condemned in the Jewish community, on May 13, 2007, Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar called on law enforcement agencies to take the investigation under special control.

The investigation believes that there are no data indicating signs of national or religious hostility. According to the main version, D. Nikulinsky was killed on the basis of jealousy.

On May 13, 2007, 26-year-old Georgy Kulik was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of killing a student. He was charged under part 1 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“murder”). On May 14, 2007, the City Prosecutor's Office of St. Petersburg reported that the detainee had admitted his guilt and stated that he had committed this crime out of jealousy.

On December 21, 2007 the investigation of the criminal case was completed. The case has been taken to court.
