The idea of a regional newspaper, not engaged in the authorities, appeared in the Pskov region in 1999 in the bowels of the city newspaper "Pskov News". It was the sunset of the once most popular Pskov edition, torn by political and personal contradictions. The team broke up according to the principle of attitude to the authorities: together with them anywhere and without them, as it turns out. The change of city authorities in 2000 completed the pogrom of the “News of Pskov”: part of the team, focusing on the editor -in -chief of Vladlen Smirnov, left the newspaper. Thought - nowhere.

Vladlen Smirnov publicly, in the presence of the whole team, suggested resigned by the elected mayor of the city Mikhail Zhoron, who did not see under any options an independent journalist with a tough character editor of the city newspaper. For the "news of Pskov" it was a point of professional decay, the physical completion of which was no longer important.
The decision on the need to enter the “Pskov province” was made at that moment, in the summer of 2000, when there was not a single independent socio-political publication in the Pskov region. Everything happened very quickly, literally a few weeks went to develop a concept and the formation of a team, the search for starting capital.
The first issue of the Pskov province was published on August 17 under the Litera of August 2000. Transfiguration ". So the first article article was named. Five hundred issues after it can be re -read again [ 1 ].
It was a moment of absolute euphoria. It is impossible to survive it again. I am sure: everyone who worked in the newspaper then will remember this day, wherever they work, whoever they have become.
The first team of the Pskov Province (Natalya Bobrovskaya, Lilia Bystrova [ 2 ], Asya Zamaraeva, Elizaveta Martynova, Lyubov Pavlova, Vladlen Smirnov) worked until April 2001. The free market was much more cruel than supposed. The free word turned out to be not only and not so good to write as it is difficult to keep afloat. Political freedom did not guarantee economic stability and independence. Freedom of speech was bitter in taste in almost all respects. The team broke up quickly, literally in a week. In a sense, it was also a “collective solution”. But - not unanimous.
From April 2001 to April 2002, Elizaveta Martynova, the only journalist of the first team remaining in the newspaper, worked as an editor of the Pskov province.
That year, a young man, yesterday's school graduate Igor Zinatulin, came to the editor. He opened the door and said: "I want to work in an independent newspaper." From the Pskov province, he entered the Moscow State University at the Faculty of Journalism and at MGIMO at the Faculty of Political Science [ 3 ].
In May 2002, the Pskov Province made the most noticeable turn in editorial policy in the history of the regional press. The editors distributed brief announcements in the city in almost all universities: “Do you want to work in an independent newspaper? Come. Try". So in the history of the Pskov region, the first editorial team appeared, in which there was not a single professional journalist, but who literally made the best newspaper in the Pskov region in the Pskov region.
The reader recognized the names of Svetlana Prokopyeva [ 4 ], Alexander Mashkarina [ 5 ], Konstantin Shmoragi [ 6 ], Valentina Chesnokova [ 7 ], Anastasia Postnikova, Sofia Davydova [ 8 ], Artyom Koryushkin, Daniil Novikov.
Not all of them remained in professional journalism. But everyone left the names on the pages of the history of the Pskov press.
In 2004-2006 The voice of the Pskov province included Maxim Andreev, Elena Shiryaeva [ 9 ], Yuri Strekalovsky. In the selected volumes of the Pskov province [ 10 ], it (like Alexander Mashkarin) belongs to the largest number of pages. It's not about the amount written, of course. The point is to the extent of invested daily work. The concept of the “Pskov province”, conceived back in 2000, becomes full of tangible.
In the media sense, in the background, but noticeably manifested themselves on the pages of the Pskov province, Andrei Presnov, Konstantin Gorozhanko, Alexei Strelnikov, Daniil Yakovlev, Sergey Sidorov, Tatyana Moreva, Julia Krasnovskaya.
The Pskov Province influenced the format of almost all Pskov print media.
The Pskov Province is the first and still the only media of the Pskov region to win in the nomination of the competition to Cesam (North-Western media) “The collective of the year in regional journalism” [ 11 ].
In 2008, the leaders of two unique weekly copyright projects joined the editorial office: Elena Cherepitskaya (“Children”) and Igor Borisov (“Notes of the Consumer”). More recently, Pskov residents, now they write their articles, being outside Pskov. But distances have not been important for a long time.
Strictly speaking, the “Pskov province” ceased to be a purely regional publication not only in the thematic series, but also in the composition of the authors. We regularly publish their materials by Russian journalists living and working in St. Petersburg: Svetlana Gavrilina [ 12 ], Boris Vishnevsky [ 13 ], Victor Nikolaev [ 14 ].
The Pskov province has become a place of publication that caused strong public resonance of copyright materials of ascetics, specialists in the field, history, art and culture, united by a strong civil position: restorer, art critic and publicist Savva Yamshchikov, writer and critic Valentina Kurbatov, art historians Irina Golubeva and Julia Seliverstov, architects of Vladimir Nikitin and Vladimir Shulyakovsky, restorer Natalia Tkacheva, historian Andrei Mikhailov, poet Artyom Tasalov.
A special part of the free word of the “Pskov province” - the articles of its readers who became the authors: the teacher of Russian literature and the writer from the Opochetsky district of George Gorelovsky, the peasant from the Nevelsky district of Stanislav Kuchinsky, Honored Artist of Russia Viktor Yakovlev.
The main public merit of the Pskov province, in our opinion, is that she was able to become a common newspaper of responsible citizens of the Pskov province.
Such a round number 500 is surprisingly playing this whole year in the Pskov public consciousness: someone continues to glorify the 500th anniversary of the loss of independence of the European Pskov veche of the Republic, and the “Pskov province” leans over the 500th week of the pages of a free word. "There are strange rapprocheces ..."
500 times before the journalists of the Pskov province were clean white stripes. 500 times they were filled with words in Russian. As our colleagues from Novaya Gazeta said once: we have the same letters, but other words.

The history of the Pskov province, like the Pskov province without quotes, is known. And one and the other can be explored, but neither one nor the other can no longer be changed - like any life that has taken place.
A symbol of newspaper business remains for us a pure white sheet of paper, the fate of which is not clear literally until the last minute. In this ambiguity - all the options for life.
Including - a variant of a free word. It exists either in the past or in the present. It cannot be guaranteed for the future.
The free word is chosen more than once and for all, but each time again, from the clean sheet.
500 times at the Pskov province, this choice took place.
Today is the five hundredth.

Dear readers! This release of the Pskov province is not quite ordinary not only in the serial number. We proposed to many authors who collaborated with the Pskov province at different times during these ten years to make a common newspaper. Everyone who could, during the holidays and trips, responded and sent their texts. The editors provided all authors with the opportunity to independently choose the topic, genre and format of the material, determine its volume. There was not a single editorial task. This number has developed completely spontaneously from one and a half dozen of copyright texts, reflecting the thoughts of very different people this week. These thoughts coincided as the events in life itself accidentally coincide - they find themselves one next to another - forever. The result was a picture of today, a mirror of today's thoughts. The editors of the Pskov province thanks everyone who contributed to this common work.
