On March 4, 2004, the Rossiya newspaper published an article about the demographic problems of Europe. The article entitled "The West does not want to give birth: By the end of the century there will be no more than 10-15% percent of Europeans" (as in the text - ed. ) is accompanied by a photograph of a Muslim woman, clearly a participant in some kind of demonstration, with three children. The leitmotif of the article is that the demographic situation in Europe is deteriorating, while the confrontation between Western and Islamic civilizations is intensifying. The Islamic world in the article appears as aggressive and not only potentially, but also really dangerous, and parasitizing on the Western world ( “a large part of Islamic youth is educated in European states ... Many use their education to increase terrorist activity” ).
In our opinion, this article is a typical example of controversial material. On the one hand, the author - Tamara Kozodoy - expounds banal things (the aging of the population of Western European states, the activity and huge potential of the Islamic world). On the other hand, it is not even the opposition of Western and Islamic civilizations, but of Europeans to Muslims. It seems that the author does not even mean the inhabitants of a particular territory - Europe, but the representatives of its "indigenous population", which are becoming less and less, since Muslim immigrants, who maintain a high birth rate, are attributed by the author to the world of Islam. In combination with a rather aggressive photograph, the text, it seems to us, forms a very specific image of the enemy.
