Bryansk region: far-right activist arrested

A criminal case has been initiated on an attempt to create an extremist community.

On January 22, 2021, the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the Bryansk Region reported that a criminal case had been opened in the region under Part 1 of Art. 282.1 of the Criminal Code with the application of Part 3 of Art. 30 of the Criminal Code (attempt to organize an extremist community). An 18-year-old local resident has already become the accused. The court took him into custody.

According to investigators, in February 2020, the defendant "drawn up a plan to create an extremist community", the purpose of which was "to commit various crimes against a group of people identified on a national basis." Then, from February 2020 to January 2021, in social networks and in person, the young man was engaged in "search, ideological processing and recruitment" of supporters. According to media reports, the young man "seemed to have found his assistants via the Internet. They turned out to be operational officers of the FSB", who "gathered material and detained intruder."

As a result, "the intent to create an extremist community was not carried through to the end."
