Memory of Gleb Yakunin
There are people whom life cannot break. She does not teach them anything. It was already time for a time to take a look, to refer, to visit his youth with a radical, and in maturity - a conservative, to occupy bread positions and reap the fruits of his and in fact a really heroic past. But Gleb Yakunin is not from this row.
He always passionately rushed into the thick of events. He neglected the risk and losses. He grinned when he was talked about danger. He did not always and did not succeed. As, however, for everyone. But this never plunged him into despair. It was generally difficult to imagine desperate. He was a clock of energy, always with new plans, with hopes and expectations.
Many in his place would have lost heart. Betrayal of closest friends, broken in the KGB and testified to him; serious camp period; The collapse of hopes for an imminent democracy in Russia - all this would be enough for anyone to spit everything and pull away from the world. Anyone, but not Gleb Yakunin.
He did not think of himself outside the events that touched the country. He devoted all his strength to this country, his whole life and energy. Perhaps Vera gave him such forces and such persistence, but rather it was still with him by nature.
He was a genuine Christian, and if at the last court everyone is rewarded in his affairs, then Gleb Yakunin has nothing to fall out. At times, he was crowded in the church framework. He was always ready to sincerely serve the church, but not to serve the authorities. In Soviet times, one did not exist without the other, and the church rejected it. And current times are not so blessed. Gleb always found other refugees, clearly demonstrating the simple fact that the church is not a bureaucratic structure with important hierarchs and temples under gilded domes, but tireless people who carry the fire of faith and fidelity.
There was not a drop of church arrogance and alienation of foreigners, which are so common not only among religious fanatics, but even among ordinary parishioners and devoted sons of the Church. In 1976, he created the Christian Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Believers, which all persecuted for religious beliefs turned. The Committee defended Orthodox and Catholics, Pentecostals and Adventists, representatives of other faiths, or in other words, religious freedom and the right to free religion. Gleb Yakunin was a rare example of the Commonwealth of Christianity and Democracy in Russia.
Until the very last days, while he was on his feet, Gleb Yakunin went to opposition shares and always discussed the latest political events with a rare excitement for his age. More recently, at one of these actions, I met him, and he began to warmly convince me that the days of the Antichrist were numbered in our country. And I remembered how I saw him for the first time forty years ago near the building of a court where he was walking, I don’t remember whose political process. Yakunin then struck me with his ardor and conviction that communism is doomed and really triumphed.
He lived his whole life with confidence in the inevitable triumph of goodness and justice. Many believe in this, but, unlike this majority, Gleb Yakunin has never, until his last days, has never been an outside observer. Life never taught him to give up.
