Introduction

The basis for this report was the monitoring carried out by the author throughout almost the entire year 2002 at the request of the Russian Jewish Congress (1) . In addition, the report uses materials collected by the Human Rights Center "Memorial" (2) , the Moscow Helsinki Group (3) , the Information and Research Center "Panorama" (4) , the Information and Analytical Center "Sova" (1) , the Moscow Office of the Anti-Defamation League (Tolerance Foundation) (6) Union of Councils - American Jewish Organization for Human Rights (UCSJ) (7) , Moscow Bureau for Human Rights (8) , Human Rights Watch ( 9) , the Keston Institute (10) , and other human rights and research organizations (11) .

All dates of events without indicating the year in the text refer to 2002. All events and quotes that are not accompanied by a separate reference to the source are given on the basis of monitoring conducted by the author.

This review focuses solely on the manifestations of anti-Semitism in Russian society in 2002 and does not address the broader issues of nationalism, xenophobia, national and religious intolerance, radicalism and extremism.
