In early February, Minister for Nationalities Vladimir Zorin released data from the Ministries of Press, Broadcasting and Mass Media on abuses of freedom of the media.
According to him, in 2003 the Ministry of Press issued 45 warnings, 35 of which concerned cases of inciting ethnic hatred.
The minister expressed concern about the appearance of xenophobic materials in the Russian media: "Some publications publish information containing incorrect statements about ethnic groups, contributing to incitement of interethnic and interfaith hatred" .
Unfortunately, if earlier information about the warnings issued was posted on the official website of the Ministry of Press, then in 2003 the ministry did not publish this information. V.Zorin's report mentioned newspapers from the Volgograd region, Udmurtia and Moscow.
