Suspects detained in the murder of an African student in Voronezh

On March 17, 2004, suspects in the murder of an African student , citizen of Guinea-Bissau Amar Lima, were detained. They turned out to be a second-year law college student Vladimir Kakushin and two loaders from Metalloprofil OJSC, Roman Lednev and Evgeny Shishlov.

According to the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Valery Gribakin, the suspects were detained “as a result of a joint operation by officers of the Voronezh Region Central Internal Affairs Directorate, the FSB, the regional prosecutor’s office and the criminal police of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.” At the very first interrogations, Kakushin, Ledenev and Shishlov confessed to their crime. In addition , “material evidence confirming their participation in the crime was confiscated from them.”

In total, in less than a month, more than a hundred people were arrested and released after verification. First, the Voronezh Organized Crime Control Department detained four suspects. The investigators received information about the whereabouts of the alleged killers a day earlier. However, one of the four turned out to be not involved in the murder.

In September 2004, the killers were sentenced. On January 19, 2005, the Moscow Supreme Court upheld the verdict of the Voronezh court.
