"NG Ex libris" promotes "new conservatism"?

"Weekly magazine" responded to the "Trends" in the "NG Ex libris" of March 18, 2004 with a column by Galina Yuzefovich Book obsession .

A selection in "NG Ex libris" is presented by Lev Pirogov's essay "Apology of weakness" and the "round table" "The last plowman on the ruins of the empire" , whose participants are trying to determine "what fascism is and why it is being imposed on us."

"In the intellectual environment, a fashion has arisen for a" new conservatism "- a heterogeneous fusion of statehood, anti-Americanism, militarism, masculinity and admiration for the Soviet past , - writes G. Yuzefovich, referring to Lev Pirogov and his circle of like-minded people. - Paradoxically, the mouthpiece of the" new conservatism "became a book supplement to Nezavisimaya Gazeta" .

Then G. Yuzefovich retells the ideas of the mentioned articles. "Firstly, the main evil is civil society, which promotes the reproduction of weaklings and degenerates. Secondly, the main accomplice of the notorious evil is ... the Committee of Soldiers' Mothers ... corrupting ... one of the main institutions of the "social mobilization" of society Thirdly, a small quote: "Fascism has become simply called adherence to principles and consistency" And finally, fourthly, "the anti-fascist pathos of the current ideologists is connected with the solution of a very specific task - to discredit the ideal of strong-willed effort in the public consciousness. "

Let us note that we are not ready, following the author of the article in EJ, to apply the term "new conservatism" to Pirogov et al. In our opinion, L. Pirogov professes National Bolshevism in the Limonovian sense of the word, and he himself does not particularly hide this. And our draft does not comment on such extreme views.
