Speaking on May 24 at the opening of the Second Diocesan Cyril and Methodius Readings, Bishop Feofan (Ashurkov) of Stavropol and Vladikavkaz announced an agreement reached with the Ministry of Education of the Stavropol Territory on the introduction of teaching "Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture" in the general education schools of the region from September 1.
At the same time, the bishop called on the clergy in every city of the diocese to open Orthodox gymnasiums, following the example of the one already operating in Kislovodsk.
