On August 2, a protest rally was held in Pskov against the adoption by the State Duma of draft laws on the abolition of benefits and social guarantees. The organization and holding was undertaken by the Pskov regional committee of the Communist Party. A similar protest action was already held in Pskov on July 2. The rally participants expressed their disagreement with the scheme proposed by the government for reforming the system of benefits and social standards. Those present chanted the slogans “Hands off social benefits”, “Give work, there will be no homeless people”, “No abolition of social benefits” and others. On July 30, Pskov Mayor Mikhail Horonen received Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, head of the Catholic mission in Russia. On July 29, a meeting of a delegation of French teachers with representatives of the regional administration took place. Thursday became the penultimate day of the week-long stay of 39 French teachers in the Pskov region. The Pskov region has been in contact with schools in the south of France for 10 years. On August 3, a mobile plant for the production of road pavement arrived in the Pskov region from Germany. The equipment will be installed at the site of the asphalt concrete plant in Borki (Nevelsky district). The plant is capable of producing 160 tons of asphalt per hour. Its management is completely computerized. The plant worth 1 million euros was purchased under leasing with a 3-year installment plan. On August 2, about 100 people gathered in Pushkinskiye Gory at the grave of the former director of the museum-reserve of A. S. Pushkin, Semyon Geichenko, to honor his memory for the 11th time. On the day of memory of Semyon Geychenko, a film and literary program was held at the Pushkinogorsk Scientific and Cultural Center. It included a documentary film-monologue in which S. Geychenko talks about who the curator of the museum is. After that, the audience went to the grave of Semyon Geichenko in the settlement of Voronich, where a memorial service was held. / PAI
On July 29–30, Pskov hosted the 2nd interregional conference “Women are changing the world”. The conference was attended by representatives from 12 regions of Russia, including the Altai Territory, Naberezhnye Chelny, Moscow and St. Petersburg, Saratov, Petrozavodsk, Veliky Novgorod, as well as Austria and Estonia, in total more than 120 people. From July 31 to August 22, an international youth construction team is working in Pskov. It consists of 19 volunteers of the International Construction Order. 13 residents of the Netherlands, 3 citizens of Germany and 3 Belgians will work at social facilities in Pskov. On July 29, the 13th international youth camp "BE-LA-RUS" was opened on the Barrow of Friendship - at the junction of the borders of Russia (Sebezhsky district of the Pskov region), Belarus and Latvia. More than 550 people came to the opening of the camp - 150 people from Russia, 300 people from Belarus and about 100 people from Latvia. This year the main host country was Belarus. The delegation of the Pskov region included representatives of local organizations of the Russian Youth Union from Pskov and Velikiye Luki, Ostrovsky, Palkinsky, Krasnogorodsky, Sebezhsky and Pskov regions, as well as employees of the Youth Affairs Committee of the Pskov region. / PAI
