On November 26, 2004, Patriarch Alexy II delivered a welcoming address dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the Russian Internet. Highly appreciating the possibilities of the Internet as a fundamentally new means of communication between people, the patriarch expressed concern that in this space one can meet "propaganda of violence and cruelty, unverified or deliberately false information ... "In our society, forces that destroy the foundations of morality and family, cultural and national traditions, inciting inter-religious and ethnic hatred. Various mass media, including the Internet resource, succumb to the pressure of these forces ," the appeal says.
Patriarch Alexy II urged Russians who work in the Internet "not to forget about the responsibility for every word spoken . "
