On December 15, 2004, the federal court of the Kuibyshevsky district of St. Petersburg delivered a verdict in the case of the murder in March of this year of a Syrian student who studied at one of the city's universities.
Valentin Bulanov, a 21-year-old resident of St. Petersburg, was found guilty of battery (Article 116 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and murder (Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). He was sentenced to 10 years in prison to be served in a strict regime colony, as well as to a fine of 10,000 rubles. The defendant was taken into custody in the courtroom.
Let us recall that the murder of a Syrian citizen was committed on March 13, 2004 at the Nevsky Prospekt metro station. Witnesses of the incident pointed to the nationalist nature of the fight started by football fans, but in the future, the motive of racial or national hostility was not included in the plot of the charge.
