The MBHR conference was held on the problem of anti-Semitism

On December 15, 2004, the Moscow Bureau for Human Rights held in Moscow an international conference "Anti-Semitism in the Former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation: Political and Public Dimension".

According to the MBHR, the number of attacks by nationalists on synagogues and other anti-Semitic actions remains unchanged, while, compared to last year, the volume of neo-Nazi literature has increased.

In addition, MBHR Director Alexander Brod noted that in 2004 a new dangerous trend appeared - threats by nationalists against representatives of human rights organizations, their beatings and murders. For example, after the assassination of anti-fascist scientist Nikolai Girenko, co-chairman of the NDPR Alexander Sevastyanov published a list of "not friends of the Russian people", which included the names of democratically oriented writers, journalists, scientists and human rights activists.

Vladimir Novitsky, legal director of the MBHR, said that the Bureau is currently conducting several trials against radical nationalists. Five courts won.

The conference was attended by representatives of the embassy corps of Israel and the United States, as well as public and political figures
