On January 12, Vladimir Ryzhkov, deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from Barnaul, addressed the Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov with an official statement.
According to REGNUM , the statement refers to a campaign to discredit the deputy, when leaflets were pasted in the Moscow metro using photos of famous politicians along with international terrorists, and then a procession using the same photos followed.
In early December 2004, a "picket against terrorism" was held in Barnaul with the image of Maskhadov, Basayev and Ryzhkov, deputy assistant Alexei Ustyugov was detained and brought to administrative responsibility for distributing leaflets refuting negative information against Vladimir Ryzhkov. Parallel to the street actions, discrediting information was disseminated in a number of mass media.
The purpose of these events, in the opinion of the deputy from Barnaul, "is not only to discredit him, but also to "clumsy" dissemination of information that serves to propagate or justify terrorism and extremism" .
Vladimir Ryzhkov asks Vladimir Ustinov to take the investigation of these facts under his personal control, as well as "to take prosecutorial response measures on the facts of propaganda of terrorism, incitement of racial, national and religious hatred and abuse of official position by responsible persons of executive authorities" .
