On December 29, 2004, the Novosti Yuga Rossii website reported that the newspaper Severnaya Ossetia had been warned against inciting ethnic hatred.
The warning was given about the publication in the newspaper of the article "The Beslan tragedy opened the eyes of the world to Ossetia", which was qualified by the Office of the Federal Service for Compliance with Legislation in the Sphere of Mass Communications and the Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Southern Federal District as inciting ethnic hatred.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Ingushetia Magomed Markhiyev sent an official letter to Presidential Envoy for the Southern Federal District D. Kozak, Minister for Regional Policy V. Yakovlev and Head of the Federal Service for Compliance with Legislation in the Sphere of Mass Communications and Protection of Cultural Heritage B. Boyarskov, in which, in particular, asked to take action against the authors of articles in the newspapers Sovetskaya Osetiya, Komsomolskaya Pravda SK and Moskovsky Komsomolets.
