The Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan, Rashid Tusupbekov, sent a letter to the Prosecutor General of Russia, Vladimir Ustinov, with a request to consider the issue of bringing Vladimir Zhirinovsky to justice for inciting ethnic hatred and discord between the peoples of Russia and Kazakhstan, according to a press release issued on February 9, 2005 by the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan.

Such a reaction of the Kazakh side was provoked by the interview of the Vice-Speaker of the State Duma Vladimir Zhirinovsky to "Ekho Moskvy", which he gave on January 17, 2005, reprinted by a number of Kazakh media.

"The Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan believes that the text of the interview contains signs of inciting national enmity and discord between the peoples of Russia and Kazakhstan, as well as humiliation of the national honor and dignity of persons of Kazakh nationality, which, in accordance with Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, constitutes a crime," the statement says . press release.

According to the INTERFAX agency, on February 10, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan declared V. Zhirinovsky's entry into Kazakhstan undesirable.
