African student beaten in Lipetsk

Late in the evening on March 14, 2005 in Lipetsk, at a public transport stop, 22-year-old citizen of the Republic of Mali Maiga Abu Bakara, a 1st year student of the philological faculty of the Lipetsk State Pedagogical University, was beaten up.

During the investigation, it turned out that the victim and his friend (also a student, a citizen of Yemen) were walking with two residents of Lipetsk near the university hostel on Studenovskaya Street, when young people approached them and asked for a light. Foreign teenagers politely refused. When an African put the girls and a friend in a minibus, the teenagers attacked him and started beating him with shouts of "Beat the blacks".

The driver of the fixed-route taxi saw the carnage, began to honk without ceasing. This stopped the attackers.

An investigative team arrived at the scene. It included the head of the criminal police of the Pravoberezhny Department of Internal Affairs Vladimir Goryainov.

The police quickly combed the area and detained three suspects - 18-year-old Konstantin Sevostyanov, 19-year-old Yury Zavershansky and 16-year-old Roman Federyakin, who did not put up any resistance. The fourth suspect, 18-year-old Mikhail Sokolov, was detained two days later.

One of the attackers, Yuri Zavershansky, was already convicted in 2004 of a similar crime .

From their stories, it turned out that they met and became friends because they love hard rock. Then it seemed patriotic to them to fight for only Russians to live in Russia. The boys named the address of the sports club where they met.

Here the police found a baseball bat, leaflets with nationalistic content, newspapers "I am Russian!", the walls were painted with skinhead slogans.

Mayga Abu Bakar suffered a concussion and numerous bruises and was taken to the hospital.

On the fact of attacking a student, a criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
