Criminal case against Stanislav Terentyev

At the beginning of April 2005 the prosecutor's office of the Voroshilovsky district of the city of Volgograd opened criminal case no. 019192 under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation in relation to Stanislav Terentyev, editor of the Kolokol newspaper. The reason was a letter from the Moscow Bureau for Human Rights to the prosecutor's office, indicating that the materials of the publications were aimed at inciting ethnic and religious hatred.

Investigator D.V. Vanyukhov issued a resolution on the appointment of a socio-psychological-humanitarian examination of these articles.

On April 7, 2005, a meeting of the expert commission was scheduled in the Committee for Nationalities and Cossacks of the Administration of the Volgograd Region. Two expert articles came - the editor of the newspaper "Shofar Povolzhya" I. Chizhikova and a philologist, professor, doctor of science Vasily Suprun. 12 experts and the editor of "The Bell" Stanislav Terentiev did not come.

The chairman of the Jewish community center, Yael Ioffe, visited the prosecutor's office as a witness to testify on the materials of anti-Semitic publications in the Kolokol newspaper. In a conversation with the investigator, she explained the negative position of the Jewish community on the issue of manifestations of "intemperance in statements" in extremist-minded media.

The Kolokol newspaper has been published since 1993. Recall that Yael Ioffe has been waging a long-term, but unsuccessful struggle for the closure of the Kolokol newspaper. The criminal case initiated earlier against S. Terentyev under Art. 282 was terminated three times "for lack of corpus delicti" , and then was closed due to the statute of limitations.
