Alexander Timofeevsky and Dmitry Olshansky wrote an article on the future of the political situation in Russia. In their opinion, in 2007 the "orange revolution" will reach Russia, and only the Motherland party can lead it, and in order to resist the revolution, it is necessary to radically change the party system.
By 2007, according to the authors, it is necessary to create three parties that are really strong and cover almost the entire electorate. It will be a modified "United Russia", which should become a full-fledged right-liberal party, an analogue of the Republicans in the United States, in addition, a social democratic party of the Western type is needed. The third party of the new party-parliamentary spectrum should be the Communist Party.
Thus, according to the idea of Timofeevsky and Olshansky, with the backing of the LDPR, which will perform the function of accumulating a marginal electorate, and in this capacity is an important stabilizing force, the created system will be able to withstand the "orange" threat.
