On May 12, 2005, an activist of the local organization of the Yabloko party was kidnapped in the center of Penza. The girl was taken out of town and severely beaten there (according to other sources, she was raped).
The NBP-Info website reports that the kidnappers threatened the girl to "show 'our democracy'" and warned that if the joint actions of Yabloko and the NBP did not stop, it would be even worse."
On May 14, at the session of the Legislative Assembly of the Penza region, Oleg Kochkin, a deputy from the Yabloko party, spoke, who, in particular, reported the incident and regarded it as a demonstrative act of intimidation in response to the actions of the Penza Yabloko in defense of citizens.
The president's representative in the Volga Federal District, Sergei Kiriyenko, asked that the materials on the fact of the kidnapping of the party activist be handed over to him and promised that he would take the case under his personal control.
