Orthodox believers in St. Petersburg sent a letter to Vladimir Putin with a request to return the Cathedral of the Peter and Paul Fortress to the Church. Earlier, the St. Petersburg diocese and the public committee for the return of church valuables made such a demand.
The letter says that the tomb of the emperors "is illegally exploited by the administration of St. Petersburg, although it is federal property."
Believers are outraged that the main visitors to the museum located on the territory of the fortress are foreign tourists who, according to the authors of the letter, do not show due respect for the resting place of Russian tsars.
In addition, trade and entertainment events are organized on the territory of the museum. "And this is in a tomb, in fact, in a cemetery! There is no such shame in any country in the world!", The letter says.
