Anti-fascist picket in Orel

On June 22, 2005, Orel human rights activists held an anti-fascist picket on the square near the monument to Leskov in Orel. Organizers of the action: Institute of Public Problems "United Europe" and Youth Human Rights Group "MPG-Eagle".

According to the head of MPG-Orel, Dmitry Makarov, the idea to hold an anti-fascist action, which would be a kind of response to the nationalists, was expressed during a round table, which was attended by representatives of municipal authorities, public associations, political parties.

In an open appeal by the organizing committee of the anti-fascist action, in particular, it says: "In 2005, our country celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of the Victory over the war, the Victory over fascism. However, fascism in other forms and at other times continues to advance. Swastikas continue to appear on the streets of Orel. The city is multiplying Fascist and Nazi groups and organizations. With the inaction of the authorities and law enforcement agencies, the Russian National Unity conducts weekly pickets ... The National Socialist Russian Labor Party "decorated" with a swastika freely distributes leaflets. Nationalist slogans of the Russian National Union and the Arian World Alliance appear on the walls. Beatings of foreign students continue, for which no one is responsible ... We are against fascism, the rehabilitation of its ideas under the guise of nationalist slogans and talk about strong power. We are for the recognition of the dignity of everyone, regardless of race, nationality and religion ... Fascism won't pass!" .
