"Komsomolskaya Pravda": strange ratings

June 27, 2005 "Komsomolskaya Pravda" published an article by Yulia Zhukovskaya "Russian Moscow will remain only in the West?"

The publication is devoted to the demographic problems of the city. It is based on another study by Olga Vendina (Institute of Geography) and, unlike the previous publication , written based on the study of this institute, is generally sustained in the correct tone, although the title - "Russian Moscow will remain only in the west" - directly refers to much less correct publications of the same newspaper, for example, "There are no more Russian children in kindergartens" .

However, the final paragraph of the article can cause nothing but amazement. Under the heading "Criminal rating" is the following text: "Moscow still has a Slavic face. According to the latest census, 85% of the population are Russians, 2.45% are Ukrainians, 0.56% are Belarusians. Total: 87.83% "But before, it was 93.3%! That is, almost five and a half percent is gone! But the share, for example, of Caucasians, on the contrary, has grown fivefold since 1989 and amounted to 4.5%" .

Why the percentage change in the ethnic composition of the population of Moscow is a "criminal rating", one can only guess.
