Sentence against neo-Nazis came into force in Izhevsk

On July 26, 2005, the Supreme Court of the Udmurt Republic considered a cassation appeal against the sentence of neo-Nazis from Izhevsk who were accused of beating Oleg Serebryannikov and Alexander Zimbovsky, leaders of the anarchist organization Ataka, in February 2004.

The four members of the Freedom Party were convicted on April 22, 2005 by the Oktyabrsky District Court of Izhevsk. Yan Krasnovsky was sentenced for "hooliganism with the use of weapons" (Article 213 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) to 2 years of corrective labor with a deduction of 20% of earnings in favor of the state. Mikhail Gubanov, Vladimir Ivonin, Vitaly Novikov were sentenced to 120, 180 and 120 hours of compulsory labor respectively for "intentional infliction of minor bodily harm, committed out of hooligan motives" (Article 115, part 2 of the Criminal Code).

As a result of consideration of the cassation appeal, the Supreme Court of Udmurtia upheld the guilty verdict against Ya. Krasnovsky and V. Ivonin. The verdict against V. Novikov and M. Gubanov was canceled due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
