Pogroms in Stavropol

On August 2, 2005, the Day of the Airborne Forces in Stavropol was marked by mass pogroms and beatings, as a result of which several dozen people were injured. Not only drunk paratroopers, but also skinheads of the city took part in the beatings.

The "celebration" began at noon with a mass distribution of neo-Nazi leaflets calling for the beating of "non-Russians", walking paratroopers. And in the evening, pogroms began on the territory of the city's Victory Park in the area of ​​​​several cafes. In total, about 30 skinheads and about 40 paratroopers who joined the pogromists took part in them.

The first fight started at the Liner cafe and was initiated by paratroopers, who, shouting "Glory to the Airborne Forces!" tried to beat "non-Russian" cafe visitors. The number of casualties in this collision is unknown. The intervention of the police made it possible to drive away, but not neutralize the rioters.

The crowd moved towards the cafe "Saint-Tropez", on the way beating everyone they did not like. As a result, more than 20 people (Caucasians and people from Central Asia) suffered. It is significant that neither the police nor the guards of the nearby cafes intervened in these beatings, which further "warmed up" the angry crowd, which some time later smashed the "Shanghai" cafe. The number of victims in this fight is also unknown, however, cafe visitors put up armed resistance - at least two attackers were stabbed.

Only after that the police intervened in the fight and the crowd began to beat the policemen.

Having fallen out of the park, the rioters went along the street of the 50th anniversary of the Komsomol, continuing to beat passers-by and smash stalls, telephone booths, slot machines on their way, breaking windows. After the watermelon tents were destroyed, the crowd split - the paratroopers returned to the park, and the skinheads went home.

No arrests in connection with the riots are known.
