Jewish graves desecrated in Tver

On August 6, 2005, an act of vandalism was committed at the Jewish section of the Dmitrovo-Cherkassy cemetery in Tver. Eight monuments were overturned, about fifty (according to other sources, thirty-nine) were painted with fascist swastikas. Some monuments were pasted over with anti-Semitic leaflets calling: "Russian! This state is in their power! It is killing your children!" made by printing method.

The police believe that this is " "a planned action: the leaflets were printed, and it is impossible to throw heavy plates off the pedestal without crowbar and other tools .

On August 11, 2005, the Jewish community of Tver sent M.Zh. Khasainov, chief federal inspector for the Tver region Yu.V. Tseberganov, mayor of the city O.S. Lebedev's appeal about the act of vandalism, at the cemetery. "We draw your attention to the fact that such inscriptions have long appeared in the center of the city of Tver and on religious buildings. We demand a thorough investigation and bringing the perpetrators to justice," the appeal, signed by the chairman of the community, I. Elgardt, says.

Previously, anti-Semitic inscriptions and images of the swastika have already appeared in Tver.
