On August 16, 2005, Nikolai Kuryanovich, a member of the State Duma Committee on Security (LDPR faction), sent a request to the head of the Presidential Administration D. Medvedev, Prosecutor General V. Ustinov and Secretary of the Security Council I. Ivanov with a demand to close the Moscow Bureau for Human Rights (MBHR) ).
The reason for the appeal was the report of the MBHR , published on August 15, 2005, in which, in particular, its activities are mentioned. The deputy considers that the European Union provides financial support for such a demand, and refers to Putin's well-known words about the inadmissibility of financing political activities from abroad.
In the request, the deputy claims that the MBHR is financed "with the money of American special services" and asks to take "all necessary measures to eliminate the provocative organization code-named "Moscow Bureau of Human Rights", which actually fulfills the political order of foreign organizations and foundations and is directly funded by them " .
It seems to us that the MBHR is not engaged in political activities, and N. Kuryanovich (who gained wide popularity thanks to his bill on the deprivation of citizenship of Russian women who marry foreigners and his support of the DPNI initiative to create mobile paramilitary groups) is simply trying to stop the activities of one of the anti-racist organizations. We hope that the addressees of Kuryanovich's appeal will not heed his words.
