They tried to prevent Garry Kasparov from entering Russia

On August 21, 2005, the head of the United Civil Front, Garry Kasparov, was detained while crossing the border at the Domodedovo airport. When passing through passport control, Kasparov's passport was taken away without explanation.

According to Kasparov, after the border guards took away his passport, they called somewhere for half an hour and found out something, and when asked what was the matter, they answered that the information was official and was not subject to disclosure. One of Kasparov's relatives heard the phrase uttered by the border guard: "I can't prevent a Russian citizen from entering Russia."

After telephone conversations, Kasparov's passport was returned. In the coming days, the politician intends to apply to law enforcement agencies for clarification.

Garry Kasparov regards this situation as an emergency. "It looks like I'm being given to understand that my presence in Russia is undesirable ," Garry Kasparov said in an interview with NEWSru.com.

On August 23, 2005, Kasparov sent a letter to the FSB and the Border Service with a request to explain the reason for the detention at the airport, the essence of the claims of the border service and the FSB, and also to inform what information the database contains on those entering Russia and what marks are there opposite the name "Kasparov" .
