On September 30, 2005, Youth Unity (ME) of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk organized an action to paint over Nazi graffiti on the streets of the regional center. The event is timed to coincide with the beginning of the school year. This is not the first such action of "Youth Unity" - in 2004, activists of the organization already painted over swastikas, drawing Russian tricolors instead.
According to the deputy chairman of the organization Alexander Sorokin, "ME" aims "not so much to eliminate the "black crosses" as to influence the public consciousness .
The action is held under the patronage of the Department of Youth Policy of the regional administration.
