On August 31, 2005, the Marketing and Consulting portal published an interview with the executive director of the Novorossiysk Committee for Human Rights (NCHR) Tamara Karasteleva, dedicated to the problems of discrimination against ethnic minorities in the Krasnodar Territory.
The main attention in the interview is given to the program of resettlement of the Meskhetian Turks in the USA - in August it was a year since its implementation was started. T. Karasteleva told how this program was born, what alternatives to the shameful process of evacuation of an entire people were considered, what difficulties the NHRC had to face.
She emphasizes that the main reason for this process is the position of the local authorities, which is aimed at purposefully squeezing out the population of other ethnicities from the territory of the Krasnodar Territory. The Meskhetian Turks are only the first in this series, since "the period of their move to the Kuban coincided with the time of the departure from the region of the Crimean Tatars, who lived in almost the same conditions in which the Meskhetian Turks are now. The Meskhetian Turks bought their houses, which to some extent contributed to the transfer of the image of the enemy to another people. They occupied the already prepared niche of the discriminated people " .
However, as soon as this niche is vacated, another ethnic group will immediately take the place of the discriminated minority. Even now it is not difficult to guess that most likely they will be Armenians (see, in particular, G. Kozhevnikova's review "Spring - 2005: Xenophobia in the minds and on the streets"). It is indicative, for example, that during the conflict in Novorossiysk , which occurred in April 2005, anti-Armenian leaflets were distributed, and "the text of the leaflets was absolutely identical to the calls for the deportation of the Meskhetian Turks, only one word changed - nationality, and the arguments were those same" . In addition, T. Karasteleva is convinced that “there are several more categories of the population that are subjected to discrimination, which will only increase over time. These are Hemshils, Yezidis, Batumi Kurds-Kurmanjis. half a thousand Yezidis .
T. Karasteleva is convinced that mechanisms are being tested in the Krasnodar Territory for squeezing out entire peoples, including from Russia as a whole.
At the same time, practice shows that all attacks, in particular, on the Meskhetian Turks in the Krasnodar Territory are nothing more than propaganda. For example, it has been repeatedly noted that "Russian (probably, they still mean Kuban - ed. ) The media often wrote about the high level of crime among the Meskhetian Turks" , while nothing is known about criminal manifestations among members of the community, already moved to the USA.
