An Armenian resident was killed in Nizhny Novgorod

On September 17, 2005, a resident of Armenia, Tomaz Amaryan, was killed in Nizhny Novgorod.

Nizhny Novgorod residents Roman Lavrentiev and his friend Alexander Boytsov stopped two Armenians on the street and asked them to smoke. Having been refused, they began to beat the Caucasians, and then Lavrentyev caught up with one of the men, took out a knife and struck them 19 times. T. Amaryan died from his injuries in the hospital of the Sormovo region.

The investigation established that earlier, Alexander Boytsov, an acquaintance of R. Lavrentyev, drinking in the company of friends, shouted nationalist slogans and called for the use of violence against persons of non-Slavic nationality. The materials of the investigation report that "acting deliberately with the aim of using violence against persons of non-Slavic nationality, with the aim of inciting hatred and enmity, as well as humiliating the dignity of a person on the basis of nationality, ... publicly ... began to voice calls for the use of violence in against persons of non-Slavic nationality" .

The attackers were identified and detained in November 2005 (Boitsov was identified by a passer-by from a photograph, Lavrentiev turned himself in). The court of the Sormovsky district of Nizhny Novgorod began to consider the criminal case on the murder in June 2006.
