On September 16, 2005, Eldos Kobonov, a student from Kyrgyzstan, was beaten up in Yekaterinburg on the basis of "ethnic hatred".
A 1st year student of the financial faculty of the Ural Economic University was attacked by four undergraduates right at the dean's office. According to the victim, he was rewriting the schedule when young people (three or four years older) approached him and, under threat of reprisals, demanded to get out "home" , beat him. In addition, the attackers threatened Eldos with murder if he told anyone about the incident or did not leave the country in the coming days.
The young man, out of fear for his life, did not seek medical help and law enforcement agencies. The attaché of the Consulate General of Kyrgyzstan in Yekaterinburg, Chingiz Kubanychbekov, who became aware of the incident, promises not to leave the incident unattended: “We will prepare an appropriate appeal to the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation. I myself did not expect such events, facts when our students are forced to leave their studies on nationalistic grounds"
The dean's office of the Faculty of Finance of USUE found out about the incident only on September 20. The faculty management intends to study the CCTV footage located at the place where the attack took place.
On September 21, it became known that USUE Vice-Rector for Social Affairs Nikolai Kostyukov, in the presence of Consul General Ch. Kubanychbekov and the injured Koboev, studied the video recording of the camera installed opposite the timetable stand, where, according to the student, the attack took place. According to the vice-rector, nothing was found on the tape to confirm the student’s story: “Judging by the filming, there was no fight in the university building on September 16. When I asked Eldos how he could explain this, he said that he was beaten later, on the way to the elevators, although he went in a completely different direction, then the scene was transferred to the landing. But the doors of the dean's office go out onto it, which are constantly open and the secretary would see or hear if something happened. Then he said that four guys took him by the arms and led him out through the main entrance to a nearby park, and he was afraid to ask the guards for help. What it all means - lies, fantasies, forgetfulness, I don’t know. "
On September 26, 2005, it became known that the beaten student was returning to his homeland. The Consulate General of Kyrgyzstan said they could not convince him to stay.
